Mubaje mourns Iranian President’s death
The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has extended his deepest condolences to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Seyyed Ali Hussein Khamenei, and the entire Iranian nation following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi.
President Raisi and other officials perished in a helicopter crash in a mountainous area of Iran during inclement weather.
Mubaje conveyed his sympathies personally to Majid Saffar, the Iranian Ambassador, during a meeting where he quoted verses from the Qur’an to provide solace.
“We shall certainly test you with fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives, and fruits. But give glad tidings to the patient when afflicted with calamity, saying truly to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return,” Mubaje said.
He also recalled President Raisi’s recent visit to Uganda, where he engaged with prominent clerics under the Interreligious Council of Uganda (IRCU), including Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.
Mubaje praised Raisi for his dedication to promoting positive causes and meaningful interactions with Ugandan leaders.
During his meeting with Ambassador Saffar and the Iranian Embassy staff, Mubaje offered special prayers for the late President’s soul and signed a condolence book in his honour.
President Raisi, a prominent conservative figure in Iranian politics, had served as president for nearly three years and was expected to seek re-election.
Born in Mashhad, a significant religious center in Iran, Raisi received his education at the seminary in Qom, studying under influential scholars, including Khamenei.
He held various significant positions throughout his career, including serving as Iran’s attorney general and head of the judiciary.
Raisi’s presidency was marked by his strong stance against Israel and the United States.
He condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza and supported Iran’s resistance policy in response to sanctions.
As a close ally of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Raisi supported political and armed groups across the region, including in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen.
