In a statement released on Thursday, May 20, the venue, known for attracting elite patrons, did not give specific reasons for the closure.”Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mezo Noir Kampala will be temporarily closed to the public, effective immediately, until further notice,” the statement shared on social media said.
“We appreciate your understanding and regret any inconvenience this may have caused,” it continued, adding that the reopening date would be announced in the future.
“Notification of the reopening date will be issued in due course,” the statement concluded.
Unverified reports suggest that a patron collapsed after drinking at the bar, with some speculating that the drink may have been spiked on Wednesday night.The reports indicate that the victim of the incident is called Martha and she died in hospital.
